Higher Education Network in North Karelia
Higher education for the whole region
Higher Education Network in North Karelia is a co-operational network that answers the training and development needs of the sparsely populated areas in North Karelia. The activities are coordinated by Karelia University of Applied Sciences. Other partners are Aducate - Centre for Training and Development of University of Eastern Finland, HUMAK University of Applied Sciences (Joensuu campus), and North Karelia Summer University.
The network is in the service of adult students, industry, commerce and public sector. The research, development and innovation work of business life and public sector arising out of regional needs is supported by the know-how and the services of these universities.
The Regional Higher Education Network has three main tasks:
•To improve higher education opportunities for adults living in sparsely populated areas. The study opportunities are flexibly available to all North Karelians irrespective of time and place.
•To offer consulting and counselling services in adult education and training in the sparsely populated areas.
•To answer the training and development needs of industry and commerce, and the public sector.
Higher Education Network in North Karelia operates in Central Karelia, Upper Karelia, Lieksa, Juuka, Ilomantsi, Outokumpu and Polvijärvi. There are regional groups of representatives managing the network. The groups consist of representatives of municipalities and cities, regional development companies, companies, all educational institutions, the employment administration, lobbying organisations, and the institutions of higher education in North Karelia. They meet regularly and compile the action programmes for regional education, know-how, and development.
